The ratification of international instruments by a state is not always enough. The country has to take further steps of domestication by enacting the law to safeguard the provisions of that International legal framework. In this context, the author argues for the necessity of an effective law to regulate and protect agricultural products that have unique characteristics and qualities that have been attributed to Afghanistan. Despite the fact that Afghanistan is a member state of the World Trade Organization (WTO), TRIPS, and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) still, there is no domestic law in Afghanistan to supplement the provisions of the international legal framework for GI protection. Afghanistan is famous for its geographical goods like pomegranates, chilghoza pine, almonds, apples, saffron, handcraft, and carpet, which naturally possess the highest quality but are exported to other countries without geographical Tags at a low price. Therefore, it is a turning point for the government to enact the law to protect Geographical indications in Afghanistan, which will not only boost economic growth and encourage production but also protect consumers from deceit and enhance the export of goods bearing GI qualities. This book looks at the application and implementation of the TRIPS agreement and the role of WIPO in Afghanistan and evaluates the significance the protecting geographical Indication in Afghanistan.
