Using L1 to learn L2! When the native language of both students and foreign language teachers is the same, it is instinctively or unintentionally used in the foreign language classroom. In the language of teaching methodology, it is called Code-Switching. Is this a learning-teaching strategy that should be allowed or avoided, or both? The use of the mother tongue among students who learn a foreign language from the very beginning seems to be an efficient teaching and learning strategy. On the other hand, students prefer to practice the target language as much as possible in order to learn the foreign language as quickly and accurately as possible. The book shows concrete examples that encourage or hinder the use of L1 in L2 learning, the advantages and disadvantages of Code-Switching strategy, as well as the learning functions that affect the use of this strategy during the teaching and learning process.
