Description

This book is a collection of essays exploring various angles of climate change and environmental issues adversely impacting human life and other species on our planet. This work aims to highlight the importance and necessity of urgent action required to mitigate the devastating impact of climate change especially in Pakistan that is among the top ten countries worst affected by environmental degradation.  The population explosion, deforestation, unchecked carbon emission, unsustainable pattern of life and lack of awareness among the masses are some of the main reasons behind this looming danger in Pakistan. As a result, Pakistan is facing the brunt of climate change in form of floods, glacier melting, heatwaves, smog, sea-level rise and droughts.    The essays try to identify numerous problems in areas of health, agriculture, economy and gender caused by climate catastrophe in Pakistan. It also sheds light on various achievements and initiatives taken by the government of Pakistan to effectively fight this menace. The book identifies that the lack of willingness on part of some nations to compromise on their economic interests led to this devastating situation and created a threat for our planet. How political and socio-economic interests of the developed countries have undercut the effort to collectively fight against climate change. This book also suggests some policy options to take solid steps to mitigate and adapt to climate change and environmental issues.
