His first book was also written in the barracks of Karachi. It was published later in book form in 1922. Some of his other short stories were written around the years 1920 to 1924 and published in various important literary magazines in Kolkata,West Bengal. They were later published as books of short stories in 1924 (The cry of the oppressed). The stories are about war time love and longing, loss and reconcilements. They are about women's role in society in the 1900's.They are about the superstitions that existed in the society and some cynicism, some humour and some philosophies are added as special ingredients. They form a very interesting reading of human emotions. Kazi Nazrul Islam is the only poet from India who took active part in the World War II.His own knowledge of Persian literature, HIndu mythology, Greek mythology and Islamic history contribute to the variety of langauge and analogies in these stories. That is a rare breed for which we need to read them and enjoy until eternity, wondering..
